ACUFF FOR CONGRESS

North Carolina’s 4th District

Why Steve Acuff?

My name is Steve Acuff and I am running to be your next Congressman. With your help, we can defeat David Price next November.

I am running for Congress because I believe that I can make a difference for the people of the 4th District of North Carolina and make a difference in Washington.

Our nation is facing new challenges both in economics and security. We need leadership with a vision and we need a new Congressman who has experience on the most important issues confronting us.

For over 30 years I served in the United States Air Force. I have a long and proud career. During my time I earned the rank of Colonel. Right now there are only four Congressmen serving who had a military career. When elected I will be the fifth. It is crucial for our country's future that we have more Representatives serving us who understand the military and the war on terrorism.

I know from my years of service that fighting this war will not be easy. But as I have learned, any thing worthy is worth working for. If we want peace, if we want to be safe in our homes and if we want to end the fear that terrorism causes, then we must fight this war. If we don't we will surely see more attacks on American soil. As a retired military officer, I know that cutting and running is not the answer for Iraq. And, it bothers me greatly when I hear our Congressman, who has no military experience, wanting to bail instead of fighting the war and supporting our troops who are doing a great job.

The brave men and women who wear the uniform of our Armed Forces deserve the equipment, training and resources necessary to accomplish their mission. Most importantly, whether it is in the halls of Congress of the hallways of our homes, America's defenders of freedom deserve our unyielding support.

It is time to elect a person who has real military experience and not someone who visits our troops for publicity.

Since retiring from the Air Force, I have worked in the private sector helping to grow a local business. The key to a strong economy is job growth. My experience gives me first-hand insight into the tough issues facing our economic development. In Congress, I will work to make it easier for entrepreneurs to create small business which are responsible for every three out of four new jobs.

I will also work to lower the tax burden that limits our freedoms. Americans need tax reform right now. Our nation's tax code is more than 45,000 pages long. Americans spend countless hours each year trying to comply with regulation after regulation. Unlike the incumbant, I will work for a simpler, fairer, and growth-driven tax system. I am proud to have signed the "No New Taxes" pledge.

Just as important as cutting taxes is cutting spending. It is time to put government spending on a diet. I support the line item veto and the balance budget amendment. The incumbent either does not care or does not know how to effectively represent us when it comes to fighting for the taxpayer. Last year he earned a 12% rating from the National Taxpayer Union. That means he has a record of voting against taxpayer interests 88% of the time.

David Price does not represent our interests. He is the typical liberal Democrat who has more in common with the extreme liberals like Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy, than the people of the 4th District. Like Hillary Clinton he has a perfect score with NARAL and Planned Parenthood.

When it comes to fighting for the small business community, he is more in line with Ted Kennedy. 83% of the time he votes against small businesses. Liberals like Nancy Pelosi love him because they know he votes with the ACLU 83% of the time and against controlling wasteful spending 92% of the time. When it comes to our 2nd Amendment rights, he is opposed. Both the NRA and the Gun Owners of America give him a zero rating.

David Price is not just a liberal, he is an extreme liberal who has forgotten us in North Carolina.

We can do better. But, one person alone cannot win a Congressional race. I am going to need your help. Won't you please join me in this important campaign for Congress? Together we can make a difference!

Thank you.
